First Aid in Morocco: Emergency Steps with the Right Numbers
In a medical emergency, the first minutes are decisive. Yet most first aid guides online use French numbers (15, 18) — useless in Morocco. This is the first guide fully adapted to Morocco, with correct emergency numbers and Rabat hospital information.
The Golden Rule: Protect — Alert — Rescue
- Protect — Secure the area
- Alert — Call 141 (SAMU) or 150 (Civil Protection)
- Rescue — Provide first aid while waiting for help
1. Cardiac Arrest: CPR
- Check consciousness: shake shoulders and ask "Are you OK?"
- Call 141
- Place victim on their back on a hard surface
- Place heel of hand on center of chest
- Compress hard and fast: 100-120 compressions/min, 5-6 cm deep
- Alternate 30 compressions and 2 breaths (if trained)
- Continue until help arrives
2. Choking: The Heimlich Maneuver
Adult: 5 back blows between shoulder blades, then Heimlich maneuver (fist above navel, pull inward and upward).
Baby (<1 year): 5 back blows face-down on forearm, then 5 chest compressions with 2 fingers. Call 141 immediately.
3. Severe Bleeding
- Call 141 or 150
- Press firmly with clean cloth on the wound
- Never remove the dressing — add layers if needed
- Maintain pressure until help arrives
4. Severe Burns
- Cool under running cold water for 15 minutes
- Remove clothing/jewelry (unless stuck to skin)
- Cover with clean damp cloth
- Call 141 if extensive or deep
5. Loss of Consciousness: Recovery Position
If the person is breathing: turn them on their side. Tilt head back slightly. Call 141.
